I'm Aisling. I'm a "dorkerella," on the never ending quest to be the world's greatest know-it-all. This is my story.
Hey guys. It's me. And today, I am here to speak with you about the wonderful world of photosynthesis!
Plants use the light from the sun to combine carbon dioxide and water to make sugar, which they eat. Photosynthesis occurs in the palisade and spongy cells, where chloroplasts are found. Chloroplasts contain chlorophyll which makes leafs green.
Interesting, kind of weird, fact: The green Excel gum contains chlorophyll. Some people (my ex-PL Fred, for example) drink chlorophyll. Now there are drinks on the market packaged like soda pop, that are actually chlorophyll drinks. I've never tried these drinks, and I don't really want to.
Anyway, photosynthesis helps plants create food so they can grow. The tallest flower in the planet is the
titan arum which can grow to be 2.5m. It smells like rotting meat to attract insects to pollinate it. (That doesn't seem very attractive to me). In Indonesia it is called "Bunga Bangkai" which means "corpse flower."
The biggest flower HEAD is the
puya raimondii. The plant's first flower takes 150 years to grow, and then it dies!
Stapelia flowers smell AND look like rotting meat.
And there you have it! I hope you've learned something!
