IBAAW

I'm Aisling. I'm a "dorkerella," on the never ending quest to be the world's greatest know-it-all. This is my story.

If you can read this...

... I am mildly surprised. I'm fooling around with stuff, so my site will probably be down a lot while I get things sorted. So... yes. If you're reading this, you're lucky, because not even I will be able to read this after I press 'submit.'

Proof that Aisling has absolutely no will power.

So, here you have stone cold proof that I have absolutely no will power at all! I swear, I tried to keep the old layout up, but it was driving me CRAZY!!!!

Anyway, I'm back to my old ways of black with a bright colour. The difference is that this colour is not hot pink this time around, but BLUE. Ooooer. It also features a vexel of me, and the old daffodil drawing that is sort of my "logo," these days, ha ha.

Why BLOGGER?

I received an email a few days ago from someone who asked me why I use Blogger. I can see why this question would be asked. It's not like I'm new to the blog scene. I've been blogging since I was 11 years old, which was in 1999. I never used Blogger until a little over a year ago. Before that I was like most other bloggers- starting off on a free server, and eventually getting hosted by some nice person, maybe acquiring a personal domain. When I started my blog here, it was just as a sort of temporary solution. Part of me always supposed that I would eventually abandon my Blogger account once again, and go back to having my typical personal site. However, when I was accepted into Katimavik, I knew I wouldn't have time to do much on my blog as far as keeping up with design styles and coding standards. So, I just stuck with it.

Recently, I began to think about change, and how I've changed throughout the years. I got to reading some of my older blogs, and laughing at some of the things I got myself into during my preteen and teenage years. French school and high school sure provided one heck of a backdrop for my wacky adventures! I was sad that I did not have each of these entries, and the others that have long been lost on now defunct free servers and abandoned cPanels, long since expired and erased from existence. I thought of how my current memories could end up with the same fate, if for some bizarre reason I forgot to save them. So, I decided I needed to become more strict with myself. I needed to show control and commitment. And I needed to do this, by sticking with Blogger for as long as possible.

So, there I was, with Blogger, and slowly getting back into the web community that I had left for the nine months that I had been away. Since I had stopped paying attention to any design-related things since before May 2006, I had obviously slipped behind as far as current trends in design, coding and accessibility. Thus, I have begun to learn about all sorts of these things again, with the added difficulty of restraints on Blogger. It's not as customizable some blogging interfaces, but it does try hard. The Blogger team is constantly adding new features which mirror other interfaces such as Wordpress.

Template-wise, I think I'm doing alright so far, adjusting to XHTML. I'm obviously still working on it. I'm using my training that I received while working at the Canadian National Institute for the Blind in Kelowna, with Katimavik, to try and get my blog as close to accessibility standards as Blogger will allow. (Thank-you CNIB-regulated Accessibility Pamphlets that I had to organize!) And I'm excited to see how I will be able to improve my Blogger experience over the next while, and try to push Blogger to its limits.

Random fact of the day: My all-time favourite font is "Century Gothic," normal weight. My second favourite is "Arial."

New layout... again! And hopefully it will stick around for a bit...

So, here's a new layout. Ha ha. I know, it's the third one in the month since I've gotten home. I'm kind of hoping to keep this one up for a while longer.

The picture in the header is just a little thing I doodled once in Katimavik. Daffodils are my favourite flower. I was born in April, which is when the Cancer Society has their daffodil campaign, so I always get daffodils around my birthday. The star and "dream," part is from my tattoo. Except my tattoo doesn't have the pink part. Anyway, I just thought it was cute and simple.

I've done some baking in the last few days which has been fun! I'm going out with my mommy on Friday so I get to go clothes shopping tonight! It's one of the best things about coming home- I've been shopping virtually non-stop, and I haven't paid for anything!

Okay, new layout, again...

So, you may notice that there is a new layout. It's kind of because I was sick at looking at myself while looking at my blog. I much prefer to look at glowing colours, contrasting with grey stripes, which is such a typically boring layout, but not too bad. I mean, everyone has done grey stripes and bright colours. Meh.

New Layout!

Hey! Not much going on, I've just been relaxing and such. Mom found out that she doesn't go back to work until Tuesday. I went to Ikea yesterday. It was pretty great.

I really need to get more of a life, or this blog will be VERY boring.

Anyway, the real reason I am here is to point out the new layout. Once again, it's simple, because I don't have the attention span to create anything too fantastic!

That's all!

I HATE YOU BLOGGER!

Okay, so, I hate my Blogger Beta, because NOBODY can comment on it! And that makes me mad and not want to update. But I shall. I shall soldier on like a soldier in a soldier camp.

I've got some fantastic advice from some Katimalumni I stalked, erm, found on Bebo, so I'm really psyched, but still quite nervous. My stomac nearly dropped when I checked this page and found '1 month 5 days' glaring back at me. It's unnerving. I am nowhere near ready.

Some lady phoned me this morning and asked if I do furnace cleaning. So, I explained to her, that I don't, that this is my house. So, she reads me a number off of a pamphlet. And I say, yes, that is my number, but no, I am not a furnace cleaner. So, she muses (aloud, like I care) that maybe they've gone out of business. And so I say, yeah, well it must have been a while ago since I've had this phone number for almost 10 years. She says, So this is a residence and not a business? Yes, I say. So, she says okay, and hangs up. Less than 5 minutes later she calls back and asks me if I do fire place cleaning, because the pamphlet says that aswell. And I say, no. And she asks me if anyone here does. And I say no, I ... um... live here- as in, this is a HOUSE. And she goes, yeah, okay, maybe I'll throw this pamplet away. UMMMM, YEAH!!!!!! Maybe you should have thought of that after the first time I told you I don't clean furnaces!?!?!?!!!!! So, I just said, Okay. Bye. And hung up. That was an hour ago, and she hasn't called again, so I think se gets the point, and actually threw out the pamphlet. Anyway, just to make sure I'm going to ask my parents or my 16 year old brother if any of them are cleaning furnaces these days.

Oh, and yesterday we got a call from some Conservative-facist group asking if we thought gays should be allowed to marry. My mom told us not to say anything, but I yelled YESSSSSSS!!!!!! Point one for the gays.

So, that was pretty much all I came here to talk about.

If you need your furnace cleaned, please call me at 1.800.Please throw out your 20-year-old pamphlets, kthnx.

Thanksgiving, etc.

Okay, firstly, I am mad at Blogger Beta, because it won't let me comment on non-Beta blogs :( Bastards.

Well, I suppose you've realized from my witty title, that this blog will be about Thanksgiving, et cetera. So, I'll get on with it.

On Saturday we (as in my familia et moi) travelled up to Edmonton for Thanksgiving dinner. And that was pretty much it. The food was AWESOME. We had turkey (durr), ham, BROCCOLI AND CHEESE CASSEROL (MI AMOR!!!!), mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes (which I don't like), salad, cabbage rolls, sausage meat, stuffing (again, durrr), and THREE KINDS OF AMAZING PIE (ha ha, Butterscotch, Caramel Apple, and then, Pumpkin obviously. It was fantastic!). Pretty much the cousins that were there (i.e., My brother Matt, Kayla, Jeannine, Emmalee and I) stayed in the basement and played LIFE, went upstairs to get food and say grace, went back downstairs to eat, went upstairs for various pies, and then stayed upstairs to chat with older relatives, such as our parents. I answered some questions about Katimavik, and held a class on how to say "La Pocatiere," and at the end everyone said bye to me for the next year. Oh, and my dad terrorized Kay's boyfriend, Issac, over the phone for a bit, before we dropped Kay off at his house, which was an experience aswell. Then we drove home.

On Sunday I worked from 10am to 3pm, then I went home, and at 7 my family and I went to see "Little Miss Sunshine," which was SPECTACULAR. I loved every second of it! Then we went to Starbucks, yum yum.

Yesterday I worked from 9am to 5pm in the hell that is called Home Depot on Thanksgiving Monday. It was INSANE all day long, I wanted to kick everyone in the head. ARRGGG!

Today, I'm supposed to clean my room (har har). I'd better do it thoug because my mom is quite close to killing me, and I am quite close to writing unappealing things about her. But in the spirit of dignity, I will not.

Beta

Okay, now I have Blogger Beta, because I wanted to see what all the fuss is about. I already had a Gmail account, so what I'm wondering is, if you sign up for Beta, does that mean they'll give you a Gmail account? I mean, it's not hard to get one, but some people do want one and that could be easier than waiting for a friend to send you an invite.

Edit: Okay, so I've gone through all of my posts and labelled them. The main label is "Journal," this is any kind of random entry. Also, "Katimavik," which has anything to do with Katimavik. Then there are "Video," "Photos," and "Random Lyrics," which are self-explanatory. Oh, and "Blogger," which is anything to do with Blogger. So... yeah. Slightly more organized!

We'll waste time, Chasing Cars

Just a quickie before I jet off to my day of doing nothing.

New template, obviously, featuring Pam (Jenna Fischer) and Jim (John Krasinski) from the US version of "The Office" (aka, my favourite show).

Just to celebrate the new season.

I AM SO EXCITEDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!

That's better.

To pay tribute to my summer television obsession, (Last year it was 15/Love, this year it's Grey's Anatomy. Sorry 15/Love, I still love you!) I present my new layout! Who knows how long it will be up? I sure don't. And neither do you. So there is nothing to discuss.
